About The Product
PRE-KAGED is a pre-workout supplement made by Kaged Muscle. It costs $36.91 on their website for 20 serving contains, and comes in 2 flavors – Fruit Punch and Krisp Apple.
Our first impressions of this pre-workout were great; we felt that it was much better than other pre-workouts we’d seen, judging by which ingredients were inside.
This made us try PRE-KAGED for ourselves. We’ll tell you what we thought about each ingredient, and whether they were dosed to work or not.
But first, we’ll tell you more about the company behind it, Kaged Muscle.
Who are Kaged Muscle?
Kaged Muscle are a supplements company based in the USA. It was founded by Kris Gethin; a very well respected fitness writer, who used to be the editor of popular website, bodybuilding.com
We’re guessing this is the reason that PRE-KAGED has been dosed well – he knows his stuff.
This isn’t the only supplement that Kaged Muscle market though; we saw that they make a intra-workout product among other products too.
But PRE-KAGED is the only supplement that really caught our attention due to being formulated well.
However, there were 1 or 2 things that we would have changed ourselves. Anyway, we’ll analyze PRE-KAGED’s nutrient profile in the next section below…
PRE-KAGED Ingredients Explained
We usually don’t like it when companies add more than 10 nutrients into their supplements; this is because they usually under-dose ingredients to keep the costs down.
However, we were pleasantly surprised that this wasn’t the case with PRE-KAGED. While there are some unnecessary ingredients in this pre-workout, Kaged Muscle have still optimally dosed important nutrient such as L-Citrulline and Creatine inside.
Saying that, there’s wasn’t much point in Kaged Muscle adding over 15 ingredients into a tiny proprietary blend that adds up to 100mg.
Anyway, we’ll take you through the most important ingredients in PRE-KAGED. By the end of this review, you’ll know how safe and effective this pre-workout supplement really is.
Here’s Everything You Need To Know:
L-Citrulline is a great ingredient to have in a pre-workout.
It’s able to convert into L-Arginine in your kidneys, which raises your nitric oxide levels; in turn, this increases your blood flow, allowing you to experience enhanced muscle pumps while you lift weights.
Ultimately, everyone loves it when their biceps inflate while curling iron, so we consider this to be a key benefit from taking pre-workouts.
Kaged Muscle have done well to dose L-Citrulline optimally here (over 3,00mg per serving). However, if we have 1 small criticism, we would have preferred to see Citrulline Malate instead.
Basically, Citrulline Malate is L-Citrulline & Malic Acid bound together.
It offers the same benefit as L-Citrulline. But it’s also able to elevate your ATP levels (due to containing Malic Acid), which gives you more of a ‘kick’ towards the end of your sets.
If you’re looking for Citrulline Malate in pre-workout supplements, it’s worth remembering that its optimal dosage if 6,000mg per serving. You need more than L-Citrulline, but we feel it’s a worthy addition to any pre-workout supplement.
But again, this is a small criticism by us, and Kaged Muscle have done very well here.
In case you’re wondering what this is, Quercetin Anhydrous is a bioflavanoid that contains high amounts of resveratrol (meaning it can improve your general health).
However, it’s not proven to deliver any benefits that directly enhances your performance in the gym. For this reason, we consider Quercetin Anhydrous to be an unnecessary addition to PRE-KAGED here.
BCAAs are made up of 3 branched chain amino acids; L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine.
They’re found in high amounts in protein powders, and have shown to enhance muscle protein synthesis (especially L-Leucine). However, we prefer buying this separately and taking it after our workouts, or after we lift weights and before we perform cardio at the end of our workouts.
For this reason, we don’t believe it’s necessary in pre-workouts; when companies add BCAAs to these supplements, you’re forced to any consume BCAAs before your workout.
We like the flexibility of consuming these at times that suit us. But still, it’s not a bad nutrient to have here either.
Now, this is probably the most controversial ingredient in the supplements industry.
Beta-Alanine has shown to be improve your muscular endurance in the gym. However, it’s also been commonly reported to cause an itchy & tingly side effect known as paresthesia.
We’ve suffered from this before after consuming Beta-Alanine, and found it very distracting in the gym (no-one wants to look like they have fleas while making gains).
For this reason, we try to avoid supplements containing Beta-Alanine. But saying that, we know that others don’t find this side effect as bad, so we’ll leave this up to personal preference.
Betaine is one of our least favorite ingredients in pre-workout supplements.
Why? Because it’s known for causing your breath and sweat to smell fishy, which is never a good thing.
Not only that, Betaine hasn’t actually proven to deliver any benefits to help you perform better in the gym either. For this reason, we try to stay away from supplements containing Betaine.
But saying that, it’s not going to kill you or cause serious side effects. So if you don’t mind smelling a bit fishy in the gym, then there’s no real negatives to having Betaine here (but no benefits either).
Creatine Hydrochloride is a form of creatine that’s shown to enhance your strength and endurnace (which all forms of creatine do).
There’s been many arguments over which form of creatine is the best. And if we were to choose, we’d go for Creatine Monohydrate everytime; this has proven itself over decades of use, and we don’t think there’s any need to fix something that’s not broken.
However, while there’s nothing wrong with Creatine Hydrochloride, it’s not anymore beneficial than other forms either.
Ultimately, having any form of creatine is a great thing in pre-workout supplements. And as Kaged Muscle have added a great dosage in PRE-KAGED, we’re happy here.
Coconut Water Powder
We were impressed after seeing that Kaged Muscle had added Coconut Water Powder into PRE-KAGED; it’s proven to help keep you hydrated, due to containing high amounts of electrolytes, but not many companies add it into their supplements.
This shows that Kaged Muscle have really done their research and gone above their call-of-action to ensure PRE-KAGED works.
But saying that, Coconut Water Powder isn’t a key ingredient either. Think of it as a great ‘bonus’ to have in a pre-workout, but you should be consuming enough water in the gym to keep yourself hydrated anyway.
Simiarly to Coconut Water Powder, Taurine is another useful ‘bonus’ ingredient to have in a pre-workout.
Basically, Taurine has shown to help reduce cramping in the gym. But you can easily avoid this by keeping yourself hydrated in the gym too.
You should know that Taurine hasn’t proven to raise your energy levels; many think that it delivers this benefit, due to it being containing in energy drinks, but there’s no evidence to support this.
Taurine is a useful ingredient, but not a key one. We would have preferred to see L-Carnitine here instead (which has shown to reduce muscular fatigue & damage, helping you stay fresh for your next workout).
We consider L-Tyrosine to be a key addition to a nootropic supplement.
However, it’s not necessary in a pre-workout supplement; L-Tyrosine is a ‘brain booster’ that’s able to improve your cognition, but you don’t exactly need improvements to your memory in the gym.
As we mentioned, this is more beneficial in nootropics, but saying that, it can be a good ‘bonus’ in PRE-KAGED (as there’s nothing bad about having it here).
When dosed correctly, Caffeine is a key pre-workout ingredient; everyone knows that it can raise your energy levels to help motivate you to smash your gym session.
However, if you’ve ever consumed too much coffee before, you’ll know that it can cause jittery side effects when consumed in high amounts.
For this reason, we always advise you to consume under 200mg Caffeine per serving in pre-workout supplements.
Unfortunately, one negative about PRE-KAGED is that it contains a HUGE 274mg Caffeine; this means that you’re at risk from suffering from jitters and energy crashes (especially if you enjoy consuming coffee or tea throughout your day).

There are 3 things in PRE-KAGED that can cause side effects; Beta-Alanine, Betaine and the over-dose of Caffeine.
In case you skimmed past the ingredients section, we’ll give you a quick summary here.
Basically, Beta-Alanine is known for causing itchy & tingly skin, Betaine causes your breath and sweat to smell fishy, while consuming over 200mg Caffeine is likely to cause jitters and energy crashes.
For this reason, we usually try to avoid Beta-Alanine and Betaine, while making sure pre-workout contain under 200mg Caffeine per serving.

PRE-KAGED Review Conclusion
We might sound like we’ve been overly critical of PRE-KAGED in this review. However, we can’t ignore the potential side effects from certain ingredients.
Saying that, Kaged Muscle have mostly added effective ingredients in optimal dosages; this is something many companies don’t do, so it helps put PRE-KAGED above countless other pre-workouts.
In fact, we’re very happy with the results of PRE-KAGED. We believe that this really is better than many pre-workouts we’ve seen on the market, and are happy to add this to our ‘Top 3 Pre-Workouts‘ rankings this year (which we don’t manage to update very often, due to being unimpressed by most pre-workouts).

They’ve made a few mistakes, but have optimally dosed effective ingredients too – putting PRE-KAGED bove many other pre-workout supplements.
