About The Product

Energy Angel is a pre-workout supplement made by Gym Angel that is aimed towards women. It costs $51.49 for 30 servings, making it one of the more expensive products on the market - so we're interested to see whether Energy Angel is worth its price tag.

We don't usually believe in products that are specifically aimed towards one gender; there's no reason to believe that specific ingredients benefit one gender more than the other. We had this same issue when our female readers asked us to compare Instant Knockout vs LeanBean fat burner.

For example, when was the last time coffee was more beneficial for women over men? Never, because the Caffeine found in coffee is beneficial at raising energy levels, regardless of gender.

However, we're not going into this review of Energy Engel with any bad opinions. So we'll keep an open mind and check whether this pre-workout really is more suited towards women than other 'gender-less' products.

To do this, we'll analyze Energy Angel's nutrient profile for you. But first, let's find out more about the company behind it.

Who Is Gym Angel?

We're not sure which year Gym Angel was founded, as it doesn't provide you with this information on their website. They sponsor 1 female athlete at the time of writing this review, named Lindsey Kaye.

Additionally, we learned that Gym Angel also sells a fat burner for women called Slim Angel. But we'll review that another time for you. You're here to learn more about Energy Angel, so let's see which ingredients have been added to this pre-workout for women below...

Energy Angel Ingredients Explained

We're glad to see that Energy Angel hasn't been overloaded with unnecessary ingredients. Gym Angel has done well to keep things concise by only including 4 main nutrients to this pre-workout supplement.

However, if we were only choosing to add 4 ingredients in a pre-workout aimed at women, we wouldn't have chosen all the ones in Energy Angel. One specific ingredient that we don't agree with is Betaine Anhydrous, as it can cause fishy odors after consuming it.

Anyway, we'll take you through each ingredient in Energy Angel in this section. By the end of this review, you'll have a good idea of how safe and effective this pre-workout supplement really is.

Here's Everything You Need To Know:

Betaine Anhydrous

As we just mentioned, we don't think Betaine Anhydrous is the best ingredient that can be added to pre-workouts.

Why? Because it's known to cause a side effect that's officially known as 'Trimethylaminuria' (fishy smelling breath & sweat). Not only that, Betaine hasn't actually shown to improve your performance in the gym in many studies.

For this reason, we believe that Betaine Anhydrous is an unreliable ingredient, in our honest opinion. We would have preferred to see something tried-and-tested such as Creatine Monohydrate instead; this is proven to enhance your strength & endurance during exercise.

L-Carnitine L-Tartrate

This sounds quite scientific, but it's not too complex. L-Carnitine L-Tartrate is a form of L-Carnitine, and to be honest, the different forms of this nutrient aren't too different.

L-Carnitine has become very popular recently, partly because it's naturally found in avocados and millennials love avocados. But you'll be glad to hear that L-Carnitine is a very beneficial nutrient to consume.

So what does it do? Well, L-Carnitine L-Tartrate is known for being able to reduce muscle fatigue and damage during studies. As well as being able to strengthen your focus during the gym too.

As a result, we consider L-Carnitine to be a great addition to any pre-workout supplement. Great job by Gym Angel here.

Agmatine Sulfate

Agmatine Sulfate is naturally found in L-Arginine and is believed to help treat drug addiction and reduce pain levels.

So why is it included in Energy Angel? Well, Agmatine Sulfate is also believed to help elevate your nitric oxide levels, which would enhance your muscle pumps in the gym.

While muscle pumps are definitely more of a 'guy' thing, females can definitely benefit from them too; muscle pumps also reduce muscle fatigue and damage, due to more blood and oxygen being pumped into them.

So if tensing your muscles while looking in the mirror aren't exactly your thing, muscle pumps will still help you in the gym.

However, L-Arginine is known for having a poor absorption rate when orally supplemented. This same issue is likely to be passed onto Agmatine Sulfate (due to it being a derivative of L-Arginine).

For these reasons, we personally don't believe Agmatine Sulfate is the best addition to Energy Angel. We would have preferred Citrulline Malate, which is proven to enhance your blood flow and muscle pumps in the gym.

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine Anhydrous is undoubtedly a great addition to any pre-workout supplement. You don't have to look at scientific studies to know that Caffeine raises your energy levels; just look at why people drink tea & coffee on a daily basis.

So what does 'Anhydrous' mean? Well, this word means that Caffeine has basically been dehydrated into powder form, so it can be added to supplements.

However, you probably also know that Caffeine can cause jitters when consumed in large amounts; we've all had one-too-many coffees before and felt shaky, right?!

We personally believe that 100mg-150mg is the 'sweet spot' for Caffeine Anhydrous dosages in pre-workouts for women. This amount will be fine for you, even if you don't consume coffee regularly.

The bad news is that energy Angel contains 225mg Caffeine Anhydrous. So if you're not very tolerant to this stimulant, you should keep this in mind. For those that consume over 6 coffees per day though, this dosage should be fine.

Energy Angel Side Effects

The good news is that Gym Angel hasn't added any nutrients that potentially harmful. So Energy Angel won't cause any serious side effects.

However, as we've mentioned, Betaine can cause your breath & sweat to smell fishy. While the slightly high dosage of Caffeine might cause those sensitive to stimulants jittery side effects.

Here are the potential side effects of taking Energy Angel:

  • Fishy odors in your breath & sweat (Betaine Anhydrous)
  • Jitters (Caffeine Anhydrous dosage over 150mg per serving)
  • Energy Crashes (Caffeine Anhydrous dosage over 150mg per serving)

Energy Angel Review Conclusion

We're very sure that Gym Angel had the best intentions when formulating their pre-workout for women, Energy Angel. This is evident, as they haven't hidden any ingredients in proprietary blends, and haven't included any harmful ingredients.

However, while there are a lot of positives, we can't avoid the negatives. These include the inclusion of Betaine Anhydrous, as we're sure that most females won't appreciate its side effect (causing fishy body odor). Also, the slightly high dosage of Caffeine puts those that are sensitive to stimulants at risk of jittery side effects too.

Ultimately, we don't believe that Energy Angel contains anything that makes it specifically more beneficial for women. So we haven't been convinced that gender-specific supplements are necessary here.

Bottom Line

Those that consume 6+ coffees per day will find Energy Angel beneficial for them if they don’t mind risking smelling fishy while exercising. But for most that don’t drink bucket loads of coffee, we don’t think Energy Angel is the best option.
