PRE W.O is a pre-workout supplement made by Dymatize. It costs $39.99 for 20 servings, and comes Chilled Fruit Fusion, Handspun Cotton Candy, & Sweet Cherry Lime.

The price of this pre-workout suggests that it’s premium, so let’s see whether the ingredients inside can back this up. But first, we’ll explain a bit about the company behind Dymatize (for those that don’t know).

Who are Dymatize? 

Although we hadn’t heard of Dymatize before, it’s a supplements company that’s been around since 1994. It’s based in the USA are claim that they produce ‘masterfully formulated’ supplements.

We will be the judge of that by analyzing PRE W.O’s ingredients below.

PRE W.O Ingredients Explained

PRE W.O contains 9 ingredients, which is a good number to have in a pre-workout; we always say that over 10 ingredients in 1 supplement is unnecessary. Instead, we’d rather less ingredients in better dosages.

First Impressions 

From first glance, PRE W.O doesn’t look like a bad product; it doesn’t contain any proprietary blends so you can see the exact dosages of each ingredient inside. Also, it doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients that’ve been banned anywhere (such as Synephrine).

However, we’ve spotted a few ingredients that haven’t been proven to work too. We’ll analyze each ingredient inside PRE W.O – to show you how effective this pre-workout really is.

Here’s Everything You Need To Know:

Citrulline Malate 

This is a great start by Dymatize; Citrulline Malate is one of our favorite pre-workout ingredients, as it’s proven to enhance your muscle pumps in the gym.

Simply put, Citrulline Malate has a great absorption rate and turns into Arginine in your kidneys (which increases your blood flow). This results in more blood rushing to your muscles while you lift weights (improving your muscle pumps).

If you’re thinking ‘why not take Arginine directly?’, here’s why: Arginine has a poor absorption rate, and is ineffective when orally supplemented. Ultimately, Citrulline Malate is your best option when you want to experience better muscle pumps.


This always splits opinions in the office; Beta-Alanine has shown to enhance muscular endurance in the gym, but also causes a side effect called paresthesia (we’ll expand on this in the side effects section further down in this review).

Personally, we find paresthesia very uncomfortable and try to avoid suffering from this side effect. However, we’ve met others that don’t mind it too much – so this is why it divides opinions here.

However, Creatine Monohydrate delivers the same benefit as Beta-Alanine, without causing any side effects; for this reason, we prefer Creatine Monohydrate (which isn’t inside Pre W.O).


Taurine is mistakenly believed to improve your energy levels, as it’s inside energy drinks. However, studies have proven that it doesn’t deliver this benefit.

It’s not completely useless though; Taurine has shown to reduce cramping in the gym. While this is a useful benefit, you can achieve this by simply keeping yourself hydrated and drinking enough water.

Not only that, PRE W.O also contains Coconut Water Powder which has proven to help keep you hydrated (meaning there’s no need for L-Taurine here).


This is one of the worst ingredients you can find in pre-workout supplements. Simply put, Betaine hasn’t shown to deliver any benefits, but it causes a side effect – fishy odors in your breath and sweat.

Inositol-Stabilized Arginine Silicate 

This is a mixture of a few different ingredients, and it sounds more complex than it really is. Basically, all you need to know is that it doesn’t work.

If you read our explanation of Citrulline Malate, we mentioned that Arginine has a poor absorption rate (making it ineffective in supplements). For this reason, anything containing Arginine will also be ineffective, such as this ingredient.



L-Tyrosine is a ‘brain booster’ ingredient, but it hasn’t shown to offer any other benefits. For this reason, we believe L-Tyrosine is more suited to a Nootropic supplement.

As Caffeine also offers improved cognition and is also part of PRE W.O, there’s no need for L-Tyrosine here.


If you’ve only heard about one ingredient on this list, then it’ll be Caffeine; this stimulant is one of the most traded commodities in the world – it’s part of countless products, including tea & coffee.

For this reason, it’s common knowledge that Caffeine is one of the safest ingredients in the supplements industry. Studies have proven that it’s able to enhance your strength, endurance, focus and energy levels – all useful benefits to improve your workouts.

However, you should always check for the Caffeine dosage inside supplements; we always recommend consuming under 200mg per serving in pre-workouts (to avoid side effects).

Consuming over 200mg per serving can lead to you experiencing jitters and energy crashes. Unfortunately, as PRE W.O contains 300mg Caffeine per serving, you’re at risk of suffering from jitters here.

Coconut Water Powder 

Coconut Water has gained positive attention recently for being beneficial to your general health – and for good reason, as it works. The main benefit from consuming Coconut Water Powder is due to it containing high amounts of electrolytes.

For this reason, it helps you stay hydrated during your workout – even when you’re sweating a lot (if you’re not sweating in the gym, then you’re not working hard enough!).


All you need to know about Theacrine, is that it’s a stimulant like Caffeine. However, the problem is that there’s already a high dosage of Caffeine inside PRE W.O (meaning you’re already at risk of suffering from jitters or energy crashes.

For this reason, those sensitive to Caffeine are certain to suffer these side effects – and even those that consume tea & coffee regularly will be negatively affected by an overall 425mg dosage of stimulants in PRE W.O.

To put this into perspective, the recommend daily allowance (RDA) for Caffeine is set at 400mg; so consuming over this is 1 serving will put you at serious risk.

Side Effects

There are 3 things that can cause side effects in PRE W.O; Beta-Alanine, Betaine and the HUGE overall 425mg dosage of stimulants (Caffeine & Theacrine).

Simply put, consuming above 200mg Caffeine per serving puts you at risk from jitters and energy crashes – while Betaine has proven to cause fishy odors in your breath and body secretions.

Not only that Beta-Alanine has shown to cause paresthesia; if you’ve come to this section to read about paresthesia, then you’ve come to the right place.

What’s Paresthesia? 

Paresthesia is a tingling sensation on the skin of your face and body. It’s often described by people as an ‘itch’, and we would agree that it makes you feel itchy; we couldn’t stop itching our arms and legs while trying to make gains!

For this reason, we try to avoid any pre-workouts containing Beta-Alanine.

PRE W.O Review Conclusion

Dymatize have priced PRE W.O along as the same price as the premium pre-workout’s we’ve reviewed (with one of them being our favorite pre-workout this year). However, PRE W.O can’t compete with them, as it doesn’t contain as many key ingredients proven to work – making it not as good value for money.

Not only that, Dymatize can cause numerous side effects; ultimately, we wouldn’t be prepared to pay the $39.99 asking price when there’s a risk of feeling like sh*t.
